Friendship Church

February 8-17, 2024 Friendship Church brought a group of 16, including 12 from Michigan and 4 from the state of Tennessee. They also had the participation of one of our extended stay visitors! One of the people from TN was orthopedic surgeon, Jon Simpson; who came to work with an orthopedic surgeon in Chiquimula to do 24 surgeries…mostly hip and knee replacements! What a blessing to those that they reached out to; people who did not have the personal resources to do this for themselves. The rest of the team had a busy week at the ministry center. They went out two days to give a jump start to our School Sponsorship Project; handing out school packs at 30 of our sponsored schools and covering about 3200 of our projection of 10,000 children to be recipients this year. They also filled a lot of the school packs that had not been completed to assist the following team that came in to finish this outreach. They helped with a distribution of baby chicks to the 35 families that have come into the Embrace program in the past year; providing a dozen egg laying chickens to each family. They did a construction project for a family; providing them with better housing. The assisted with the Embrace program by filling the food bags and lending their support to the monthly meetings that occurred while they were here. They also did an Adopt-a-Child activity; having the opportunity to spend a morning either with their own Embrace child that they sponsor or to get to know a child that does not yet have a sponsor. We picked up a couple of new sponsors due to this activity! There was some “behind the scene” help and assisting with a data base program that we are trying to get set up and some issues with our webpage. They transported back about 250 lbs. of coffee that they are going to try to sell at an open air market back in Michigan. They had a busy 8 days at the ministry center and then finished off their time with a 2-day R&R in Antigua that everyone enjoyed!
