SAMARITAN PROJECT UPDATE FOR MARCH 2024

CAMOTAN

This was a project covered by the last February team and overseen by the church in Camotan; reaching out to a family in the village of Lantiquin.  Maria Gomez is 74 years old and is bedridden due to her health.  Her husband is 84 years old and can’t go out to work much due to the need to be there for his wife.  Their children give them $25 a month and help with their food.  Their house was in very poor condition and the church chose them to be a candidate.  The original plan was to have some of the team members go assist with the physical labor of the project but due to the family not being ready for them; we had to go to Plan B.  While the team did provide the funding to cover the materials; there were family members that helped with the actual building.  Their comments “We are so grateful from the bottom of our heart for this assistance that was given to us.  May God truly bless those that made this possible and bless them back in a special way for all that is done to help those in need.”

AGUA ZARCA

Estanislado Mendez is 75 years old and married.  He cuts and sells firewood to support them and earns about $30 a month.  His house was in very poor condition and they did not have the resources to improve that.  His comments “I am so grateful to Sister Nancy and to Servant Ministries for allowing me to be a part of this project.  My wife and I now have a “worthy place” to live in and we pray for God’s blessing upon all that had a part in this.”

Jose Mendoza is 60 years old and married.  He supports them by cutting and selling firewood; earning about $30 a month.  Their house was made of palm and was very deteriorated; but they did not have the money to change that.  His comments “Above all, I want to give thanks to God for allowing me to be a candidate for this project.  It has been a lifelong dream to have a tin roof on my house and I am so thankful to have it.  After God, I am grateful to missionary Nancy Sheldon, for her work with the poor, and for all that she does for Guatemala.”

LA PUENTE

Porfirio Vasquez is 60 years old and married.  Their children are grown.  He works doing agricultural field work for others and earns about $50 a month.  His house was in very poor condition and the church offered to assist him.  His comments “I am thankful to Servant Ministries for the help that was given to me and my wife.  May God bless you for your humanitarian work that you do amongst the poor.”  This project was done with the Family Foundation funding.

MATAZANO

Elena Ramos is 62 years old and has been a widow for 6 years.  She has been living with a daughter.  She owns a small piece of property where she had built a simple palm covering but hadn’t been able to do anymore.  The church reached out to help her be able to provide housing for her on her own property.  Her comments “I am thankful to both Pastor Alvaro and to Sister Nancy for helping me in this way.  I can now live very happily in my own place for the remainder of my life.  God bless all that were a part of this.”  This project was done by the Family Foundation funding.
